"There is a wealth of hearing instruments and assistive listening equipment available today. We have to be creative in applying that technology to help people hear better in very difficult listening situations."

Meet Leslie J. Lesner, Au.D.

Dr. Lesner has retired. Read her note here.

Leslie J. Lesner, Au.D., has practiced audiology for 30 years. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Science and her Master of Arts degree in Audiology from the University of Illinois. She obtained her Doctor of Audiology degree in 2009 from the George Osborne School of Audiology at Salus University near Philadelphia. Dr. Lesner began her career on staff at an Ear, Nose and Throat physician’s office and later consulted to several hospitals and private practices providing audiologic, hearing aid and dizziness evaluations. Two years later she teamed with educators and therapists in diagnosing, developing educational goals and managing the hearing needs of children with multiple handicaps in 93 school districts in the western suburbs of Chicago.

After eight years as an Educational Audiologist, Dr. Lesner entered the information processing industry at Burroughs Corporation, and later at a biomedical equipment company, Stens Corporation. The computer training she attained has been an asset as the hearing industry has “gone digital”.

Dr. Lesner was an audiologist in a private practice in Arlington and Alexandria, VA, from 1996 to 2004 and developed a loyal patient base by combining state-of-the-art technology with careful treatment. She is committed to providing the best service and follow-through. She opened Lesner Hearing Center LLC in July 2004, to address the call for excellent patient care for people with hearing loss in Northern Virginia.

Dr. Lesner’s training in computer systems and continuing education in audiology helps her stay current in the new techniques to fit digital hearing aids, assistive listening devices and wireless technology on patients of all ages. She explores the nature and impact of hearing loss with her patients and likes to be creative in applying new technology to help people hear well in very difficult listening situations. Her strong sense of what can be accomplished with hearing aids, a plan to get there and gentle tenacity help her patients get the most from their hearing aids. A sense of humor helps, too!

Over the years, Dr. Lesner has given numerous presentations about hearing loss and hearing aid technology in Northern Virginia. In August and December 2006, Dr. Lesner appeared on WUSA Channel 9 TV in Washington, D.C. and was interviewed about hearing aid technology. She is a Professional Member of the American Academy of Audiology and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology. She holds licenses in audiology and hearing aid dispensing in Virginia. Leslie Lesner is from Chicago.
