About

Dr. Janani Perera, Au.D., CCC-A, is originally from New Jersey. After defending her honors thesis, she earned her Bachelor of Philosophy in Communication Science from the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Perera went on to attend the University of Maryland, where she received her Clinical Doctorate in Audiology. Her capstone research project investigated why people with hearing loss have increased difficulty with hearing in background noise. She completed her Audiology residency at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, a Harvard University teaching hospital, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dr. Perera has experience in a diverse range of settings, such as hospitals, ENT offices, specialty clinics, and private practices. In these settings, she performed hearing and balance assessments; conducted hearing aid consultations, fittings, and follow-up care; provided cochlear implant services; and completed electrophysiological testing.

Dr. Perera evaluates and treats patients with a wide range of hearing concerns and complex histories. She is dedicated to providing warm, patient-centered, evidence-based care for her patients. She is committed to creating a supportive environment to help patients feel comfortable and understood. Dr. Perera works collaboratively with her patients’ healthcare teams and support systems to ensure coordinated care in pursuit of helping patients improve communication, hearing health, and overall quality of life.

Dr. Perera is licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia and holds certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA).

When she is not at work, Dr. Perera enjoys creating art, being outdoors, and all things related to food (like cooking, watching cooking shows, and trying new restaurants).
